11. What you need to get from your headshots

If my workshop is indeed your “first rodeo”, and you are brand new to the game of acting, then it is possible that you do not have a headshot yet.  But if you have even sniffed an audition, I’m sure you certainly already have one.  Based on LA standards, that headshot may be acceptable for the LA market.  However, LA certainly requires more specificity, and a distinct separation between your commercial and your theatrical shots.
As soon as you arrive in Los Angeles, you will be bombarded with advertising for headshot photographers.  Who should you go with?  How much is the right amount to pay for a headshot shoot?  How many looks should you get?  What factors determine having a successful photo shoot?  Should you shoot with a photographer who shoots digital or film?  Color or Black and White?  What’s the normal turnaround time?  Where should you get prints and reproductions made?  Should you get lithographs?  How many copies of each shot will you need?
