13. What you need from your demo reels

If you have been fortunate enough to ever have booked an acting job and worked as a principal on set, you hopefully were aggressive enough to gather your footage after the final cut was produced.  Whether it was a local commercial, a student film, an industrial, or a local hire co-star on a network TV show, it is now a potential component of your acting demo reel.  When editing your demo reels, what are your primary goals?  How long should it be?  Should you have one general reel?  Or should you separate into comedy, drama, commercial, hosting, etc.?  Where should you post them?  If you distribute your reel, what technology currently is the industry standard?  If you hire an editor, what is an acceptable price?
