20. Where and when to do showcases

Frequently in Los Angeles, there are groups that organize showcases.  Showcases are essentially a collection of scenes in one live stage show designed to expose actors to agents, managers and producers looking for new acting talent.  These groups usually utilize popular theater venues to make the experience as convenient as possible for the agency representatives.  When should you do a showcase?  How much do they cost?  How much is too much to spend?  Are you assigned a capable scene partner, or can you bring in your own trusted partner?  Do they assign a scene, or can you choose your own scene based on your branded character?  Should you leave the showcase if the other work is not as satisfactory as your scene?
